Step back into old Japan: the "Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings" special

“Important Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings” are areas selected by the national government under the Act on Protection of Cultural Properties, where a historic townscape is preserved as a whole town.

Teahouse quarters lined with latticed doors. Merchant towns of white plaster walls and tiled roofs. Stone-paved slopes. Whole towns kept just as they were.

Take one step in and you are back in the Edo or Meiji period!

Yukata, kimono and hakama look right at home here. Off you go to the good old Japan of these towns!
