The night view from the observation deck 123 meters above ground has been selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Night Views.
Below, seasonal illuminations transform the tower throughout the year.
This guide covers how to make the most of Fukuoka Tower’s magic hour views and nighttime splendor.
Fukuoka Tower
Fukuoka Tower is a landmark tower in the Seaside Momochi district of Sawara Ward, Fukuoka City. At 234 meters, it’s Japan’s tallest seaside tower, and its night view from the 123-meter observation deck is ranked among Japan’s Top 100 Night Views.
Fukuoka Tower is famous for its nightly illuminations that light up without fail every evening.
The illuminations change with the seasons, and special displays are created for events like Halloween and Christmas.
The tower looks beautiful from afar, but up close you can appreciate both its beauty and impressive scale.
The illuminations extend beyond the tower itself to decorate the surrounding area at its base.
These photos show late March’s cherry blossom-themed illuminations.
Summer brings goldfish designs, Christmas features Christmas trees—the illuminations never fail to delight no matter when you visit.
Breathtaking Night Views from 123m Above
If you’re visiting Fukuoka Tower, the night view is an absolute must.
From the observation deck 123 meters above ground, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Fukuoka City’s nightscape, selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Night Views.
Looking west toward Seaside Momochi Beach Park and Marinoa City Fukuoka. Magic hour—those few minutes just before sunset—creates an especially beautiful contrast with the sky.
Also facing west, this view overlooks the Muromi River. The city lights reflected on the water surface create a dreamlike scene.
Looking east toward Fukuoka PayPay Dome, Tenjin, and Hakata Station.
To the north lies Marizon and Hakata Bay, with Shikanoshima, Okinoshima, and Uminonakamichi visible beyond.
The observation deck at night bustles with couples, friends, and families. It’s one of Fukuoka’s most popular tourist spots.
Best Tip: Arrive Just Before Sunset
To fully enjoy both the night view and illuminations, arrive just before sunset.
If you reach the observation deck just before sunset, you’ll witness the beautiful magic hour scenery in those few minutes before the sun sets, then experience an even more stunning night view afterward—twice the magic in one visit.
Important Access Information
Fukuoka Tower is farther from Hakata Station and Tenjin than you might expect.
If using transportation other than a car to visit at night, plan your route before heading out.
Limited Evening Bus Service
Nishitetsu Bus serves Fukuoka Tower, but evening service drops to just 1-2 buses per hour. Check departure times for both your trip there and back in advance.
From Hakata Station: Nishitetsu Bus 306 (Hakata Bus Terminal, Platform 6), get off at Fukuoka Tower (approx. 25 min)
From Tenjin: Nishitetsu Bus W1 or 302 (Tenjin Bus Center Mae, Platform 1A), get off at Fukuoka Tower (approx. 15 min)
From Nishijin Station (Subway Kuko Line): Nishitetsu Bus (Nishitetsu Palace-mae bus stop), get off at Fukuoka Tower (approx. 10 min)
With such limited bus frequency and the need to watch departure times for both ways, you might find yourself too constrained to fully enjoy Fukuoka Tower.
That’s why we recommend the subway plus taxi combination.
Best Option: Subway + Taxi
For evening visits to Fukuoka Tower, combining the subway with a taxi is the best approach.
Take the subway to Nishijin Station (Kuko Line)
Take a taxi to Fukuoka Tower
Subways run frequently even in the evening. You can reach Nishijin Station anytime without worrying about schedules.
Nishijin Station has no taxi stand, but taxis pass by on the main street in front of the station. Wait at the Wakiyamaguchi intersection where Meiji-dori and Sazae-san Street cross to catch one. (If you can’t flag one down, call one of the taxi companies listed below.)
From Wakiyamaguchi intersection to Fukuoka Tower is about 1.5 km. By taxi it takes 6-7 minutes and costs around 870 yen.
For the return trip, take a taxi from Fukuoka Tower back to Nishijin Station.
However, Fukuoka Tower also has no taxi stand, so you’ll need to catch one yourself.
Calling a taxi company or using an app is the most reliable method.
You can also book taxis through ride-hailing apps like GO, Uber Taxi, or DiDi.
Alternatively, there’s a taxi stand 350m away, about a 5-minute walk from Fukuoka Tower.
With these options, you can enjoy the night views and illuminations at Fukuoka Tower without being tied to a schedule.
