The Nagamachi Samurai District is a historic neighborhood in the Korinbo area of Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, where the residences of Kaga Domain samurai once stood. Earthen walls and stone-paved alleys line the streets, while the gentle flow of the Onosho-yosui and Kuratsuki-yosui canals adds to the atmosphere. With the Nomura Samurai House and several museums preserving samurai culture scattered throughout, this popular destination evokes the feel of an Edo-period castle town. In spring, cherry blossoms bring color to the earthen walls and residences; in winter, straw matting (komo-gake) and snow create a quiet, evocative scene.
