Eguchi Dango Main Shop(japanese: 江口だんご本店) is a long-established confectionery store located in Miyamoto-cho, Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture. Since its founding in 1902, it has continued to adhere to traditional manufacturing methods and is loved as soul food by the people of Niigata Prefecture.
Eguchi Dango is proud of its fragrant bamboo dumplings made with high-quality rice. In addition to the standard bamboo dumplings, there are a variety of flavor variations such as strained bean paste, crushed bean paste, zunda bean paste, and soybean flour.
Eguchi Dango Main Shop has a cafe on the second floor, where you can enjoy Japanese sweets at the old folk house cafe.
The café is an old thatched-roofed house, typical of snowy regions, and has a lovely atmosphere.
Popular is the matcha set with beautiful goshiki dango(japanese: 五色団子 抹茶セット) (770 yen).

In addition, there are many other menu items such as anmitsu, zenzai, and parfait, making it a heaven-like space for Japanese sweets lovers.

Eguchi Dango main store is located in the suburbs, so you can see the original Japanese scenery and feel the Japanese atmosphere.
During the spring season, you can see cherry blossoms from the cafe’s window, creating a picturesque view.
Summer is a lush landscape. The green is bright and nice.
In winter, the scenery is covered in snow. It’s great to enjoy Japanese sweets at a warm old folk house cafe while looking at this kind of scenery.
The first floor is a sales corner where you can purchase a variety of Japanese sweets.
The classic dango skewers and the sweet and salty soy sauce sauce are addictive.
Sasa dango is a specialty of Niigata. We use Rikyu Taisho Mochi(japanese: 里宮大正餅), which is said to be a fantastic sticky rice.
Sasamochi is refreshing and makes you feel like summer.
There are also Japanese sweets such as dorayaki and manju.
We also sell tea such as black tea, bancha, and sencha.
This is Nagaoka Sekihan. A specialty of Nagaoka. This is soy sauce-flavored red rice.
We also sell ingredients for Nagaoka Sekihan that you can make yourself.
Recommended is the dangoya pudding(japanese: だんご屋プリン). The mitarashi-flavored sauce transforms the pudding into a Japanese sweet.
On the first floor, next to the sales corner, you can watch them actually making sasa dango.
Even if you don’t have a car, you can also go to Eguchi Dango Main Shop by bus.
In that case, take the Echigo Kotsu bus from Ote Exit Platform 5 of JR Nagaoka Station towards Kashiwazaki Station.

Get off at the Higashikata(japanese: 東方) bus stop.
From the Higashikata bus stop, it’s just a 1-minute walk from Eguchi Dango Main Shop.
There are only about one bus per hour on both the outbound and return trips, so be sure to manage your time properly when traveling by bus.
