The Inubosaki Lighthouse: More Than Just a Lighthouse!
When it comes to Japanese lighthouses, the Inubosaki Lighthouse in Choshi City, Chiba Prefecture, stands as an iconic symbol. Since its completion in 1874, this lighthouse has been safeguarding ships with the most powerful beacon in the East.
But recently, the Inubosaki Lighthouse area has gained an exciting new attraction.
Just a few steps from the lighthouse, you’ll discover a vibrant space featuring a market filled with fresh seafood, a café offering panoramic Pacific Ocean views, and establishments serving local craft beers – all embodying the contemporary spirit of Choshi.
Welcome to “INUBOW TERASU TERRACE.”
While a historic lighthouse and modern tourist facility might seem like an unlikely pair at first glance, they complement each other perfectly. Let me introduce you to this new destination where you can fully experience Choshi’s charm while enjoying spectacular Pacific Ocean views.
INUBOW TERASU TERRACE
INUBOW TERASU TERRACE is a tourist facility adjacent to the Inubosaki Lighthouse in Choshi City, Chiba Prefecture. Opened in late 2018, it houses various establishments including a market selling local specialties and fresh vegetables, cafés, a bakery, and the Choshi Beer brewery.
INUBOW TERASU TERRACE also serves as Choshi City’s antenna shop. The Fresh Market on the first floor offers freshly harvested vegetables and fruits, allowing visitors to purchase Choshi’s bounty.
Choshi is famous for its seafood, and you can find various processed seafood products here as well.
Also on the first floor, healing craft sells furniture and interior accessories. Here you can purchase handcrafted accessories made from 100% natural materials and traditional rattan furniture, a craft passed down through generations in Choshi.
Relax at the Café
The first floor features Seaside Terrace, a café with a wonderful atmosphere.
The café serves stylish menu items and is perfect for lunch.
Their desserts are particularly recommended, with pancakes and seasonal sweets being especially popular!
While there are restaurants adjacent to INUBOW TERASU TERRACE where you can enjoy fresh seafood and other Choshi specialties, this café is highly recommended for ladies looking for a stylish lunch during their trip.
Capture the Inubosaki Lighthouse Sunrise in Your Glass! Local Craft Beer and Craft Cola
Taps on the first floor sells Choshi’s craft beer.
Besides Choshi beer, they offer unique local products like “Choshi Lighthouse Cola” and “Dawn Soda” – a carbonated water as blue as the deep sea.
The most amazing thing is that when you mix the Choshi Lighthouse Cola with Dawn Soda, it creates a beautiful drink that resembles the sunrise at Inubosaki Lighthouse!
Currently, there are only two places in Choshi City where you can taste Choshi beer, making this a precious spot. Whether you choose the Choshi beer, the sunrise-inspired cola, or both, make sure to enjoy these unique beverages when visiting the Inubosaki Lighthouse.
The Spacious Observation Terrace!
The second floor of INUBOW TERASU TERRACE features an observation terrace where you can enjoy views of the Inubosaki sea.
Every January 1st, they host an event to watch the first sunrise of the year. While strong winds blow across the Choshi cape, you can enjoy Japan’s earliest sunrise from the comfort of the warm observation terrace.
A particularly notable feature is the “Hammock Bench” – a popular spot where you can lie back and enjoy the scenery.
While we’ve introduced many highlights of INUBOW TERASU TERRACE, there’s still much more to explore. From impressive Choshi spiny lobsters at the Fresh Market to regular workshops for creating beautiful accessories, and a bakery with irresistible treats that are both visually appealing and delicious – be sure to check their official website and social media for more information.
The Perfect Complement to the Inubosaki Lighthouse Visit

Just one step from the lighthouse, you’ll find restaurants serving Choshi seafood, food stalls, and this wonderful INUBOW TERASU TERRACE.
The Inubosaki Lighthouse is one of Japan’s rare “climbable lighthouses.” Visitors can actually ascend the lighthouse and enjoy the views from above. There’s also a museum and many other points of interest.
After exploring the Inubosaki Lighthouse, you’ll probably want to take a break, enjoy lunch, and perhaps purchase some Choshi souvenirs.
