Shin-Osaka Station has two smoking areas on the 3rd floor. One is inside the Shinkansen concourse, and the other is an outdoor smoking area near the West Exit, outside the ticket gates.
This guide shows you the photo-by-photo route to the outdoor smoking area at the West Exit, which is accessible without a Shinkansen ticket.
How to Get to the West Exit Smoking Area
You can reach it from either the Shinkansen South Gate or the Central Gate.
From the Shinkansen South Gate, turn right after exiting the gate and go straight.
From the Shinkansen Central Gate, turn left after exiting the gate and go straight.
You will reach an open area where the routes from the South Gate and Central Gate merge. Continue straight along the left side.
At the end of the corridor, you will see stairs going down. Do not take the stairs. Instead, exit through the door on your left.
After going through the door, turn right.
Keep going straight.
After a short walk, the smoking area will be on your left.
You have arrived. The smoking area is divided into a heated tobacco section and a cigarette section.
Smoking Room Inside the Concourse
There is also a smoking room inside the Shinkansen concourse, located at the far end near Platform 27.
Additionally, Drip - X-Cafe JR Shin - Osaka Station (near the Shinkansen transfer gate) on the conventional line concourse has a smoking booth, though you need to order at the cafe to use it.
Your Smoking Oasis at Shin-Osaka Station
Shin-Osaka Station has two smoking areas: the smoking room inside the Shinkansen concourse and the outdoor smoking area near the West Exit.
The concourse smoking room requires a Shinkansen ticket, but the West Exit outdoor smoking area is outside the gates and open to everyone. If you need a smoke break at Shin-Osaka Station, head for the West Exit outdoor smoking area.
Please help keep the smoking area pleasant for everyone by disposing of cigarette butts properly and not smoking outside the designated area.
