A Stream Underground? A Tranquil Space with Edo-Period Charm
Shibachika lacks the chaotic atmosphere typical of food streets. A small stream flows through the floor, and green plants are arranged throughout.
This stream was created to recreate the atmosphere of Edo when inviting a Tokyo-based restaurant to open at Shibachika. Combined with the unique design element of a stream flowing underground, it creates a spacious and relaxing environment.
Indeed, Shibachika is an underground food street, but it stands out as a refined dining destination unlike typical basement food halls.
A space where you can forget the hustle and bustle of Umeda and enjoy meals and drinks at a leisurely pace.
Yet many restaurants offer reasonable prices.
From business professionals working around Osaka and Umeda Stations to university students and families.
Shibachika is a popular gourmet spot bustling with Osaka locals every day.

From Bubble Era Disco to Reiwa Gourmet Alley: 40 Years of D.D.HOUSE History
D.D.HOUSE, where Shibachika is located, is a mixed-use commercial building that opened in 1985. With restaurants and entertainment facilities, it has been beloved as a nightlife spot in Umeda.
During the bubble era (late 1980s when the Japanese economy was booming), the disco Maharaja occupied the building and attracted crowds of young people every night. While the building has transformed over time, in November 2024, ahead of its 40th anniversary, the B1 floor was renovated as Umeda Shibachika, reborn as a new dining floor.
D.D.HOUSE continues to evolve with the times. Shibachika is its latest chapter.
The nickname Shibachika comes from combining Shibata (the location) and chika (underground in Japanese).
