Excellent Access! Located in the Heart of Dotonbori
Kuchihaccho Midosuji Namba is conveniently located less than a 1-minute walk from Exit 14 of Namba Station, right in the heart of Dotonbori. The large, bright red sign is very eye-catching, and if you’ve been to Namba or Dotonbori, you’ve likely seen it.
Recommended for Early Hours
I visited on a weekend before 7:00 am PM. There were still few customers, and the food was served smoothly.
Great Value! Beer for 195 Yen
The biggest attraction is undoubtedly the reasonable prices. Beer is offered from an astonishing 195 yen (tax included), allowing you to enjoy premium draft beer at a low cost.
The main dishes are chicken-based, with grilled chicken and chicken wings being the signature items. I ordered stuffed bell peppers.
The style features meatballs on raw bell peppers. In Kanto, stuffed bell peppers are usually bell peppers filled with meat and grilled, but this seems to be the Kansai style. It was tasty enough, and the drinks went down well.
Check Reviews. Issues with Service and Attitude?
Looking at the Google Reviews, comments like “Ordered food and drinks never arrived” and “Staff had a bad attitude” stand out. The ratings are quite low, comparable to some of the scammy places in Kabukicho. I’ve encountered my fair share of disappointing izakayas, but these low ratings are striking. With a high number of reviews and a low overall score, it sadly means many people have had similar negative experiences.
However, when I visited, unaware of the reviews, I didn’t encounter such issues. The staff was efficient and lively.
Since these problems are related to store management, it would be great if the headquarters of this chain could oversee and improve the situation. It’s a shame considering the great location.
I hope that when you visit, things will have improved. It’s a good idea to check the Google reviews before you go.
Can You Accept “Cheap but Not Great”?
There’s an old saying, “You get what you pay for,” meaning that cheap things or experiences often come with lower quality. This can be seen both positively and negatively.
In Japan, where hospitality is a strong cultural value, there are fewer izakayas where “cheap but not great” applies, but I do acknowledge that they exist to some extent.
Knowing this beforehand can make a difference in your experience. The cost-performance of draft beer is undeniably good, so if you’re okay with a quick drink or two and then moving on, or if you don’t seek high quality, you can avoid disappointment.
I hope my article helps reduce the chances of you having an unexpectedly bad experience.
Recommended for Quick Visits Early in the Evening!
Since I didn’t encounter the issues mentioned in the reviews, I recommend it with the condition that you’re okay with the possibility of these problems.
High-value izakayas often struggle with staffing, especially on busy days, affecting their operations. So, it’s best to go in with the right mindset.
I recommend visiting alone or with one other person, enjoying a quick drink early in the evening before it gets crowded.
Two draft beers, an appetizer, and stuffed bell peppers cost me 1,280 yen. The low beer prices make it cheaper than average izakayas.
Osaka Dotonbori has many izakayas. Let’s move on to the next one!
