The sights the world recognises: the "Michelin Green Guide Japan" special

The “Michelin Green Guide Japan” is a travel guide to Japan published by Michelin, the French tyre maker. It rates old temples and shrines, gardens, castles and natural scenery by its own criteria: three stars mean “worth a journey”, two stars “worth a detour” and one star “interesting”.

The number of stars tells you how far a place is worth going out of your way for. Three stars means it justifies planning a trip around that one place. Travellers from Japan and abroad have long used these stars as a guide to choosing where to go, so pick a place that catches your eye and let it decide your next destination.
