Umeda Is Packed with Nightlife and Dining Hotspots!
Before you head out for drinks, let’s take a quick look at just how many food and entertainment spots there are in Umeda.
Generally, “Umeda” refers to the area surrounding JR Osaka Station, Hanshin and Hankyu Umeda Stations, and the Osaka Metro Umeda Station.
Around Osaka Station, there are roughly 10 major gourmet and nightlife districts, each offering unique dining and drinking experiences.
Umekita Green Place
Grand Green Osaka “Time Out Market Osaka”
Inogate Osaka “Bar Chika 03”
LUCUA Osaka “Bar Chika” and “FOOD HALL”

Hanshin Umeda Main Store “Hanshin Dining Hall,” “Snack Park,” and “Hanshin Bar Yokocho”
Oishii Mono Yokocho
Shin-Umeda Shokudo-gai
Hankyu Higashi-dori Shopping Street
Sonezaki Ohatsu Tenjin Shopping Street
Even within walking distance of Osaka and Umeda Stations, all these districts are packed closely together — yet each has its own distinctive atmosphere and charm.
Let’s take a closer look at what makes each area special.
Umekita Green Place
Umekita Green Place is a brand-new commercial area that opened on March 21, 2025.
Located on the north side of JR Osaka Station and adjacent to the Grand Green Osaka redevelopment area, it’s a stylish urban space where lush greenery and modern architecture coexist. Cafes, restaurants, and bars are nestled among open plazas filled with natural light.
During the day, enjoy terrace lunches or café time, while in the evening you can dine and drink under the glow of soft illuminations. It’s a refreshing oasis in the heart of the city where you can feel close to nature while still being in bustling Umeda.
Time Out Market Osaka, located inside Grand Green Osaka, marks the first Japanese branch of the world-famous Time Out Market. Originating in Lisbon, this global food hall concept has opened in major cities worldwide. In Osaka, it gathers top Kansai chefs and renowned restaurants under one roof.
More than 20 booths serve everything from gourmet dishes to sweets, cocktails, and wines. With live music and occasional events, it’s more than just a place to eat — it’s a destination where you can experience Osaka’s culinary culture firsthand.
Bar Chika 03 is a dining complex inside Inogate Osaka, directly connected to JR Osaka Station’s west exit. Spread across three floors, it brings together about 50 restaurants and bars — from world-renowned eateries to Japan’s most talked-about spots.
You’ll find cafés, casual standing bars, izakaya, and creative fusion dining — making it easy to pick the right place for any occasion.
Opened in October 2024, this is one of Osaka’s hottest new gourmet destinations.
On the B2 floor of LUCUA Osaka — directly connected to JR Osaka Station — are two distinctive food areas.
The stylish and youthful “Bar Chika” is popular for its creative dishes and trendy interiors, offering everything from Japanese cuisine to international dining.
Meanwhile, the “FOOD HALL” offers a calmer dining environment, featuring well-known restaurants like Hokkyokusei and Kua’Aina. A highlight here is “Kitchen & Market,” where you can both shop for ingredients and enjoy freshly prepared meals — a new hybrid concept for Osaka dining.
With over 30 restaurants combined and unbeatable access (just one minute from the station), it’s perfect for after-work drinks, casual dates, or dinner with friends.

Umeyoko is a yokocho-style food alley on the B1 floor of KITTE Osaka. It combines Osaka’s lively charm with a modern, stylish twist — a “new-generation yokocho” that’s quickly gaining popularity.
With 17 restaurants ranging from long-established favorites to trendy newcomers, it offers a vibrant mix of flavors and styles. Many places are open for daytime drinks, and the friendly counter seating creates a nostalgic yet energetic Osaka atmosphere.
Hanshin Umeda Main Store “Hanshin Dining Hall,” “Snack Park,” and “Hanshin Bar Yokocho”
The Hanshin Department Store Umeda Main Building features multiple gourmet floors, each with its own unique atmosphere.
On the 9th floor, the “Hanshin Dining Hall” offers a calm and comfortable space to dine with a variety of restaurants and cafés — ideal for couples or family outings.
On the B1 floor, the “Snack Park” is a beloved standing-eat zone where you can enjoy Osaka specialties like udon, kushikatsu, and ikayaki in a casual setting.
The B2 “Hanshin Bar Yokocho” is a casual yet refined bar area perfect for after-work drinks. With craft beers, wines, and diverse small plates, it’s become a new staple for nightlife in Umeda.

Oishii Mono Yokocho is a restaurant zone located in the basement of the Yodobashi Umeda Tower — right across from JR Osaka Station.
Despite its stylish atmosphere and selection of popular eateries, prices remain fairly reasonable, making it a local favorite.
All shops open from 11:00 and many stay open until 24:00, making it an ideal choice for both lunch drinks and late-night meals. Plus, its direct connection to Umeda Station ensures easy access.
Shin-Umeda Shokudo-gai is a traditional dining alley established in 1950. Located almost directly beneath JR Osaka Station, it retains an old-school Showa charm with nostalgic eateries lining its narrow paths.
This long-beloved spot welcomes crowds daily. If you haven’t been yet, it’s worth a visit — it’s one of the best places to experience Osaka’s trademark warmth and hospitality.
The Hankyu Higashi-dori Shopping Street extends eastward from Osaka Umeda Twin Towers North. Also known as “E Street,” it spans about 500 meters.
This lively street is packed with izakaya, bars, karaoke spots, and game centers. Chain restaurants are common, offering affordable and casual food and entertainment.
Centered around this street, you’ll find many izakaya, bars, karaoke venues, and amusement facilities such as game centers.
Because so many chain restaurants operate here, it’s easy to enjoy food and entertainment at relatively low prices.
Because the Hankyu Higashi-dori Shopping Street is close to Umeda Station, it’s always crowded with both tourists and locals. This also means it doesn’t feel uniquely “Osaka” compared to more old-school districts, but on the flip side, its heavy foot traffic makes it a safe, easy area to enjoy food, drinks, and nightlife.
Note, however, that the eastern edge of the district has some host clubs, and the northern side has a few cabaret clubs, giving it a slightly underground vibe. If that’s not what you’re looking for, focus your visit on the main Hankyu Higashi-dori area.

A recommended spot in this area is CASSIWA. It’s a skewer-and-wine bar that, in addition to yakitori skewers, serves many dishes that pair beautifully with wine — all at fairly reasonable prices.
In particular, the photogenic “Gorogoro Sparkling” — sparkling wine with frozen fruit and syrup — is worth trying at least once.

Sonezaki Ohatsu Tenjin Shopping Street is a shopping arcade about 300 meters long, located east of Higashi-Umeda Station.
Many independently owned restaurants line this street, making it a great place to experience Osaka’s unique local flavor. You’ll find everything from traditional izakaya to modern casual bars.
Narrow back alleys branching off from Sonezaki Ohatsu Tenjin Street are also packed with independent eateries, so you can enjoy the classic Japanese “yokocho” atmosphere here as well.
Ohatsu Tenjin Urasando
Ohatsu Tenjin Urasando is one of the alleys branching off from the main street and has become a popular nightlife spot in its own right.
In addition to izakaya, you’ll find Italian restaurants, Okinawan food, Thai cuisine, and many other genres — so it’s great for groups with different tastes.

A great place to try here is umbrella. It’s a bar that’s been selected every year as one of the GUINNESS BEST PUBS, so of course you can enjoy perfectly poured Guinness, but they also offer a rich lineup of craft beers.
The interior is stylish and refined yet relaxed and casual, and the food is delicious too — making it a great choice for both solo drinking and a night out with friends.
