Lake Saiko Lakeside Campground is a nature-rich camping area located in Fuji Kawaguchiko Town, Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture. Set in a beautiful lakeside environment, it offers a variety of accommodations including tent sites and bungalows, as well as outdoor activities such as canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. With basic camping facilities in place, it’s the perfect spot to relax and immerse yourself in nature. The campground is accessible by bus from Kawaguchiko Station on the Fujikyu Line, making it convenient for those using public transportation.
Take the Lake Saiko circular bus (Green Line) from Kawaguchiko Station on the Fujikyu Line. Get off at the Lake Saiko East Entrance bus stop and walk for 3 minutes.
The management building is located just as you enter the campground.
There’s a shop attached to the management building where you can purchase miscellaneous goods and firewood.
The shop is well-stocked with snacks, cup noodles, seasonings, gas canisters, detergents, and other miscellaneous goods. Cooking utensils are also available for rent.
Firewood is sold in two types: softwood (700 yen) and hardwood (1100 yen). Prices may vary depending on market conditions.
Rotary
As you enter, there’s a spacious rotary. Cars can be parked at the back.
The entrance area in front of the management building features a large rotary where visitors staying in bungalows or those who can’t or don’t want to park at the campsite can leave their vehicles.
Bungalow Area
Near the entrance, there are numerous bungalows available.
First Open Area
The First Open Area is located alongside the lake shore. While it doesn’t offer direct lake views, its spacious grounds make it easier to secure a spot.
Second Open Area
The Second Open Area is situated just before the lakeside sites. Depending on the location, some spots offer camping with lake views.
However, as you can see, the central area serves as a path to the lake and lakeside sites, so setting up camp there is not allowed.
Lakeside Tent Sites
This area allows camping with views of Lake Saiko and is the most popular site in the lakeside campground.
As space is limited, if you want to secure a spot here, it’s best to check in as close to the opening time as possible.
The view of Lake Saiko from the lakeside sites is breathtaking.
When visiting this campground, the lakeside sites are definitely the spots to enjoy.
Beautiful Views of Lake Saiko
While it may vary by season and conditions, among the Fuji Five Lakes I’ve visited, Lake Saiko left an impression of being quiet with less wind and waves, creating a tranquil atmosphere.
Serene Lake Saiko landscape
A mountaineer I met and chatted with here also mentioned that Lake Saiko is quieter compared to the other Fuji Five Lakes.
The views of Lake Saiko are particularly stunning during morning and evening hours.
(However, strong winds can occur at times, so be sure to prepare for all weather conditions)
A Sacred Site for “Laid-Back Camp” Pilgrimage
The Lakeside Campground was featured in the music video for “The Sunshower,” the 7th single by Asaka, which was used in the short anime “Room Camp” from the “Laid-Back Camp” series.
The area where the tent was set up in the music video is around here
This spot is right in the middle of the highly sought-after lakeside site area, making it quite challenging to secure.
