Fireworks: A Symbol of the Japanese Summer

When you think of the symbols of summer in Japan, fireworks come to mind. Japan has a tradition of enjoying large fireworks blooming in the night sky during summer, such as at the Sumida River Fireworks Festival and the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival.

Amidst this, did you know that you can enjoy a fireworks display at Fumotoppara Campground, the mecca for campers and the largest campground in Japan by area?

In this article, we will introduce the ultra-premium event “Fumotoppara Campground x Fireworks”, which only happens once a year, if at all.

Held every July 31st! Camping event “Grand Off”

Tokai Mitsubishi Motors holds a camping event called “Grand Off” every July 31st.

When this camping event is held at Fumotoppara Campground, you can enjoy a fireworks display there.

At Fumotoppara Campground, handheld fireworks and fireworks displays are normally prohibited.

However, during this event, not only can you enjoy a fireworks display, but depending on the program of the day, there may also be events where you can enjoy handheld fireworks near the management building.

Everyone Has a Chance to Watch the Fireworks!

Participation in Grand Off itself requires advance reservation. However, Grand Off only rents out areas A and B.

Area A becomes the fireworks launch point, and Area B becomes the camping site for Grand Off participants.

The other camping sites in areas C to L operate as usual, unrelated to the event, and can be reserved and used just like always at Fumotoppara Campground.

In other words, you can enjoy the fireworks without reserving in advance or participating in the event.

30 Minutes of a Dreamy Scene

The fireworks display is just one part of the program for the camping event “Grand Off”, launched for 30 minutes from 19:00 or 19:30.

Although it’s a short 30 minutes, you can witness a scene you wouldn’t normally see: “many tents illuminated by fireworks”.

While the fireworks may not be as large as those at the Sumida River Fireworks Festival or Nagaoka Fireworks Festival, the fireworks launched up close are still plenty powerful.

Just being able to enjoy fireworks at Fumotoppara Campground is something that can’t normally be achieved, so it’s sure to be a blissful time.

Check Out Fumotoppara Campground in the Summer!

Since we couldn’t find evidence that the camping event “Grand Off” is held at Fumotoppara Campground every time, it may not always be the venue.

It was the venue in 2021 and 2022, but there are no records for 2023 and we couldn’t confirm if it was held. (It’s also possible Grand Off itself wasn’t held).

Therefore, by checking the official website of Tokai Mitsubishi Motors and the official website of Fumotoppara Campground, you can keep an eye out for whether Grand Off will be held, and if it turns out to be held at Fumotoppara, you might be able to see a fireworks display.

Once a year, if at all.
