About a 30-minute drive from Koan Campground

It took about 30 minutes by car from Koan Campground.

Going by car is recommended, but it’s also possible to get there by taking trains and buses.

In that case, take the Fujikyuko Bus from Kawaguchiko Station or Fujinomiya Station. Get off at the “Asagiri Green Park” bus stop and walk to Fumotoppara Campground.

Elevation & Climate

Fumotoppara Campground is located at an elevation of 830m.

Fumotoppara Campground

Due to the high elevation, a bit of caution is needed regarding temperatures. When I visited, it was like this:

  • Late March
  • During the day in the sun, the thermometer showed around 20°C, but the wind was chilly.
  • It was still cold enough to need the same gear as winter.
  • Late July
  • During the day when the sun was out, it was very hot in the sun
  • In the shade the breeze was cool
  • From evening on when the sun went down, it was cool
  • Mid-September
  • Even during the day, it’s good to have an extra layer just in case
  • From evening on the temperature drops, so a T-shirt alone is too cold

Fumotoppara is very wide open with nothing blocking the wind in any direction, so the wind is strong. Keep this in mind when preparing clothes too.

Fees

  • Parking fee: 2,000 yen per regular sized vehicle
  • Adult (junior high school students and older): 1,000 yen per night

So for a solo car camping trip, it costs 3,000 yen per night.
