Takeda Shrine
Takeda Shrine is a shrine located in Kofuchu-cho, Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture, and is dedicated to Takeda Shingen, a military commander from the Sengoku period.
Takeda Shrine is built on the site of Tsutsujigasakiyakata, which was the residence of the Takeda clan. It was built in 1919 (Taisho 8), and in 1923 (Taisho 12) it was designated as a Shinsenheihakuryokyoshin-sha.

The grounds of Takeda Shrine are not very large. You can visit the grounds of Takeda Shrine in 15 to 20 minutes, even if you take your time.
There are also souvenir shops and the Shingen Museum in front of Takeda Shrine, so if you plan to stop by there, you can estimate the approximate length of your stay by taking that into account.
About 8 minutes by bus from JR Kofu Station
You can access it even without a car by connecting trains and buses.
There is a bus terminal at the north exit of JR Kofu Station. Take Yamanashi Kotsu [10/11] Takeda Shrine or [12] Sekisuiji from Platform 2 and get off at the bus stop Takeda Shrine.

“Takeda clan mansion” is also called “Tsutsujigasakikan” because Takeda Shingen’s father, Nobutora, moved the mansion from Isawa to this area in 1519 (16th year of Eisei). to start.

For about 70 years after the Takeda family’s fall, until the current Kofu Castle was built to the south of the mansion during the Bunroku era, this mansion area became the political, economic, and cultural center of the territory. It has developed as a.
The building is built in the style of a flat castle, consisting of a square main building (currently Takeda Shrine) with a side of approximately 200 meters, and several sub-walls surrounding it.
Surrounding the mansion were the residences of the vassals, and the castle town was spread out along a grid of roads to the south.
This mansion and castle town boasted first-class scale and quality as the headquarters of feudal lords during the Sengoku period.
Shinbashi Bridge
The bridge that spans the entrance to Takeda Shrine, “Shinbashi”, was rebuilt in 1934 in imitation of the bridge that was built in front of the main gate of Tsutsujigasakikan, the residence of the Takeda clan during the Sengoku period.
The bridge is approximately 20 meters long and 6 meters wide, and consists of stone piers and wooden bridge girders. The crest of the Takeda clan, the “Takeda Hishi”, is engraved on the bridge piers, and a plaque reading “Takeda Shrine” is hung on the bridge girder.
The bright vermilion color is beautiful.
In addition, Shinbashi Bridge has been designated as a city-designated cultural property of Kofu City, and is a valuable heritage that conveys the history and culture of the Takeda clan.
Torii/guardian dog
At a shrine, the torii gate is the entrance to the shrine and marks the boundary to the sacred space. The guardian dog enshrined in front of it is worshiped as a divine beast that protects the shrine.
The guardian dog that is enshrined in front of the torii gate of Takeda Shrine also has a very powerful expression and appearance.
Recommended scenery before passing the torii gate
Before passing through the torii gate, turn around and look towards the entrance of Takeda Shrine. Seasonal flowers and trees, the bright vermilion Shinbashi Bridge, and the straight main street. There is an extremely beautiful Japanese scenery reminiscent of old castle towns.

The precincts are rich in nature and quiet. The atmosphere is relaxing.
In spring, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom and you can see a very beautiful scenery.
Worship Hall
The worship hall was rebuilt by him in 1955 and is a wooden structure with a hipped roof. It is 3 rooms in front and 2 rooms on the side, and the roof is made of copper sheets.
The main hall at the back of the worship hall was built by him in 1919 and is designated as a national important cultural property.
Inside the shrine, there is a shrine in the center with Takeda Shingen as the main deity. In addition, on the left and right sides of the shrine are the shrines of Katsuyori Takeda, the second son of Takeda Shingen, and Nobuharu Baba, a senior vassal of the Takeda clan.
Sacred natural scenery with a sense of history
One of the characteristics of Takeda Shrine is its rich nature.
There are moss-covered trees scattered around the temple grounds that give you a sense of age, giving you a sense of history and a sacred atmosphere.

- The special paper is a two-page spread, and the left side has a cut-out image of Takeda Shingen standing or sitting.
- Even if you have a Goshuin book, you can receive your Goshuin stamp on special paper.
- You can take both standing and sitting positions, or you can take more than one of each.
- Goshuin book: 1,700 yen (Takeda Shrine original shuin book)
- The cover is bound with black brocade cloth, and the front cover is embroidered with an armor and the back cover is embroidered with Mt. Koyo Bunoden(甲陽武能殿)
Koyo Bunoden(甲陽武能殿) is a Noh stage built in 1985 exclusively for Noh performances.
The name of Koyo Bunoden comes from the military science book “Koyo Gunkan” written by Takeda Shingen.
“Koyo(甲陽)” represents the shining state of Kai Province, and “Buno(武能)” comes from the fact that the Takeda clan’s “bu(武)” and the “mai(舞)” of Noh play connect to the same sound.
This Bunoden was built to praise the bravery and culture of Takeda Shingen and to wish for the inheritance and development of Nohgaku.
Hello Kitty stone statue
A stone statue of Hello Kitty is dedicated at the entrance of the treasure hall.
This stone statue was dedicated by citizen volunteers from Kofu City, the birthplace of Sanrio founder Shintaro Tsuji.
We recommend visiting the Shingen Museum and souvenir shop along with Takeda Shrine.
In front of Takeda Shrine, there are souvenir shops and the Shingen Museum.
The souvenir shop is on the right of the photo, and the Shingen Museum is on the left.
Both are located right in front of Takeda Shrine, so access is easy. I will introduce the Shingen Museum later in this article, but if you are going to Takeda Shrine, I recommend stopping by both.
The souvenir shop is also lively, offering a wide variety of products, including Yamanashi specialties such as Kikyo Shingen mochi, Takeda Shrine items that can only be purchased here, and original Takeda Shingen goods.
Among these, “Shingen Ice Cream”, which is vanilla ice cream topped with soybean flour and brown sugar syrup, and “Castella Yaki”, which is purveyed to Takeda Shrine, are particularly popular.

Takeda Shrine was built in 1519 by Nobutora Takeda, the father of Takeda Shingen, as a guardian shrine for Tsutsujigasakikan, which was built northeast of Kofu Castle.
Afterwards, when Takeda Shingen unified Kai Province, it became the guardian deity of the Takeda clan and reached its peak of prosperity. However, in the era of Takeda Katsuyori, the Takeda clan was destroyed by Oda Nobunaga, and Takeda Shrine also fell into ruin.
After the Meiji Restoration, Takeda Shrine was rebuilt due to the ordinance separating Shinto and Buddhism. In 1940, it was designated as a national historic site.
