World Heritage Sites
Currently, there are 25 World Heritage Sites registered in Japan, consisting of 20 cultural heritage sites and 5 natural heritage sites. Many of the registered sites are structures that symbolize Japan's history and culture, such as the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto, Buddhist Monuments in the Horyu-ji Area, Himeji Castle, Hiroshima Peace Memorial (Genbaku Dome), and Itsukushima Shinto Shrine. In addition, areas with pristine nature, such as Shirakami-Sanchi, Yakushima, and the Ogasawara Islands, are also registered as World Heritage Sites. These World Heritage Sites play a role in conveying the charm of Japan's rich culture and nature to the world, and are popular spots visited by many tourists from both within Japan and abroad. Efforts for preservation and inheritance continue to be made so that their value can be passed on to future generations. It can be said that Japan's World Heritage Sites are irreplaceable treasures that reflect the image of Japan from the past to the present.
